Tobacco-associated carcinogens after activation transform normal cells to initiating clones (initiation). Repeated and prolong exposure of promoting agent results in clonal expansion of initiated stem cells (promotion) which sequentially progress to form malignant tumor (progression). Tea/tea polyphenols, chirata/amarogentin, and clove/eugenol could act similarly to activate body's detoxification system or inhibit clonal expansion of initiating stem cells to be in early premalignant stages resulting restriction of the carcinogenesis progression
